MUSIC IN THE TIRZAH

On the four Sundays of August every year the Bessbrook Development Company organises a series of band concerts called Music in the Tirzah. The original Tirzah was erected in 1912 as a shelter and place for reflection. The new Tirzah fulfills both these functions and has a lawn and flower bed.The first concert was held on Sunday 5 August when a small crowd took a chance with the weather to be entertained by Tullvallen Silver Band. Here are some photographs of the event.

The second concert was held on Sunday 12 August. It took place, for the most part, in brilliant sunshine. Camlough Brass and Reed Band played to a crowd of more than 50. Most people remained afterwards for light refreshments. Here are some photographs of the event.

The next concert was on Sunday 19 August when Poyntzpass Silver Band visited the Tirzah for the first time. The weather was very kind. What started as slight overcast developed into bright sunshine, with a cooling breeze. The band teated us to a fine selection of marches, hynm tunes and pop music. More than 60 people attended and most remained afterwards for light refreshment and chitchat with friends and neighbours. Here are some photographs of the event.

At the final event on Sunday 26 August we were entertained by Warrenpoint Silver Band. There was an excellent programme of hymns, marches and pop music, including a tribute to the Beatles.

If you have enjoyed these concerts please come back next year. Tell your friends and bring them along. If you know of the concerts only through this website I hope that it has given you some idea of pleasure experienced by all who attended.
