Bessbrook is situated in South Armagh about 5km west of Newry. It is passed on the S by the A25 and on the E by the B133 but neither road enters the village. The site was chosen in the mid-19th century to build a large linen factory and the core of the "Model Village" dates from the second half of that century. Most of the original village still exists and there are many modern additions. The photographs on this web site were taken mainly during the last 30 years.
If anyone has any photos which they would like me to include please let me know.

BOOK OFFER
In 1995 a group called Bessbrook 150 was formed to organise the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the village of Bessbrook in 1845. As part of these proceedings they published a book called Bessbrook: The Model Village 1845-1995. This contained a complete reprint of the centenary booklet published by the Bessbrook Spinning Company in 1945. To this was added reminiscences and articles by some well-known Bessbrook people, which covered the period 1945-1995. This limited edition sold out rapidly and many people regretted that they had missed the chance to buy a copy. The Bessbrook Development Company has now made available a reprint of the 1995 book. It is available by post for £12 per copy including postage. If you would like a copy please send a cheque for £12 made payable to Bessbrook Development Company to
